There are so many places to go and things to see, that if you are only here for a holiday and expecting to relax, you will have to choose just a few and be sure to come back to see more.

We can divide the destinations into three general classes:

• natural wonders
• man-made places, notably the amazing variety of picturesque villages and

towns, and, of course, the historic cities.

• culture: museums, galleries, theatres and opera-halls – also, of course, man-made, but an identifiable subset of locations whose cultural content is the main point, rather than the fabric of the building.
