A kind of hardware store specializing in equipment and materials for agriculture and gardening. Usually sell work gloves, rat poison, mousetraps, hand tools, machine tools, fertilizer, weedkiller, plastic sheeting, spades, mattocks, etc. Some have wire mesh and netting of various sorts (try Mologno for example). If you are looking for machine tools, it is probably better to go to a specialist. For agricultural and Garden tools, for example, there are Agrigarden in Lucca, Ulivi Garden in Pian di Gioviano. For carpentry and metalworking tools use a ferramento.

What we would probably call a “cellar”, though usually, in these mountainous conditions, you will find that the cantina is underground only on one side of the house, and is the ground floor on the other side.

Ironmonger, but many are really tool shops too. Particularly Pierini in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, and [CHECK] in Fornaci di Barga.

('pa-eyzeh') You knew that this means 'country', but did you realize it also means 'village'? A 'casa di paese' is one actually in the village, as distinct from nearby.
